Film Night: Merecedes-Benz Racing History, Part 2 (evening social)

Our September monthly meeting sees the return of David Ross who will be presenting his second instalment of films on Mercedes-Benz's racing history, this time covering their pre-war period 1937 to 1939.
This 65-minute video was compiled by the late Bill Mason who for many years was the director of the Shell Film Unit. During the 1990s, at his own expense, he acquired archive films and photographs from many countries and edited them into three one-hour videos, Racing Mercedes 1894-1955.
This will be a great opportunity to learn about how one of the longest established motor racing teams in the world developed and raced their cars during the two years before the Second World War.
We are also hoping to find time to show a second film featuring the late Ronald ‘Steady’ Barker. His name will always be linked with his role as a technical editor of The Autocar but he did so much more for us petrol heads and celebrated his 90th birthday by wing walking on a friends Stearman biplane.

The route, held entirely within the square mile of the City of London, is itself straightforward with simple directions and maps provided.
