Thursday 27th Feburary

Evening Social - The Rallye of the Incas (talk)

For the Club's February meeting we welcome the return of Dr Graham Rood who will be presenting an illustrated talk on the Endurance Rally Association's (ERA) 2016 long distance event, the Rallye of the Incas.
Comprising of two main classes of car – Vintageant up to 1941 and Classics up to 1975 – this arduous motoring event saw some 70 competitors attempt to traverse the continent of South America in a series of regularity sections and tests on a mixture of local roads and race circuits.
The long distances and rough terrain took their toll on the cars and during the few rest days the ERA mechanics were kept busy, not only repairing the cars but having to scoure local towns and villages for spares such as leaf springs to rebuild back axles.
The talk will describe the rally, the cars, the inhabitants and the mechanical machinations that are quite normal on this type of event. Graham has many interesting recollections of this event, so our February Club Night is one not to be missed!

The Early Bird is a road-based tour offering owners of classic cars a rare opportunity to head out on the open road on a day’s leisurely drive with fellow enthusiasts.
First run in 1995 the Early Bird successful launched the Club into the world of classic car events and is still going strong today.
